GWR shortlisted for National Recycling Award!

Glasgow Wood Recycling is delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted as a finalist in the MRW National Recycling Awards 2019.

We have been selected as a finalist in the Waste Reduction Initiative – Public/Third Sector category after being nominated by DSL Business Finance. These awards bring together recycling enterprises from across the country to recognise and celebrate best practice and innovation.

“It means a lot to our social enterprise to be recognised at a national level and it helps acknowledge the huge amount of commitment our volunteers and staff put into the model of community wood recycling. We thank the awards panel for their appreciation of this effort.”

Peter Lavelle, Chief Executive of Glasgow Wood

At Glasgow Wood Recycling we are on a mission to save wood from landfill and find meaningful ways to reuse and recycle waste wood – transforming this valuable resource into quality garden and indoor furniture. We place people at the heart of what we do by providing a wide range of volunteering and training opportunities.

“When I retired from nursing I was looking for an interesting volunteering opportunity. At Glasgow Wood Recycling, I get the opportunity to use all sorts of things – tools and equipment – that I wouldn’t get anywhere else. I’ve learned a lot when I think about it; building things – how to go about it – structuring things, learning to read diagrams. It’s learning new skills and it gives me the confidence to do things for myself.

I’ve built all kinds of different pieces, from tables, to garden furniture and planters – and the sense of achievement when you complete something is always great.”

John, Workshop Volunteer
