Project
Barclays Glasgow Campus
In mid 2022, Barclays opened its new campus in Tradeston to house their technology, operations, and functions teams, a team said to reach over 5,000 by the end of 2023. The 500,000 sq. ft. site has transformed a brownfield area into workspace, community, exhibition and wellbeing spaces.
With requirements to be as sustainable as possible and support local businesses, suppliers and contractors to Barclays chose Glasgow Wood to produce a wide range of our core products and services. Using reclaimed scaffold boards and other reclaimed timber, we supplied cladding, a range of bespoke furniture and a handful of planting equipment.
See below for our contributions.
Outdoor furniture for the Sustainable Energy Facility roof terrace
Sky Garden, the people behind this roof terrace, asked us to build a selection of bespoke storage units, moveable planters, tables and benches. Located on Plot 4 on the Kingston Street side of the site, the energy facility sits beside the listed Beco building. The aim for this centre is to take Barclay’s closer to zero carbon by supplying energy to the nearby buildings. The intention of this secure roof terrace is to provide a outdoor environment for staff group activities.
The design statement explains:
“The Sustainability Centre will play an important role in providing energy to the other buildings in the campus, and contributing to Barclays carbon reduction targets.”
Cladding and furniture for internal offices & hybrid work spaces
Brown & Carroll and Insightful Environments UK asked us to supply cladding for on-site installation, plus a range of steel-framed benches and tables for the various meeting spaces located inside the Campus.
The Herald details information about the buildings and what the space is to be used for:
“The three new buildings have been named Tradescroft, Windmillcroft and Wellcroft, reflecting the industrial heritage of the area.
Other features include a new city centre park, including indoor and outdoor space for community events. A curated space, “The Street”, has been developed for social enterprises and local entrepreneurs to sell their products to the public, with further amenities including wellbeing facilities, exhibition spaces and a street food market.”
“Buchanan Wharf, home to Barclays Campus Glasgow, is one of Scotland’s biggest ever construction projects, providing more than a million square feet of prime Grade A office space, 324 residential units, an early years centre, commercial spaces for shops, cafes restaurants, and bars, and including the refurbishment of two Category B-listed buildings. The associated public realm includes landscaped river frontage, pocket parks, a new plaza, public art, bespoke cycle shelters, wayfinding, and lighting.”
So if you make a trip to the facilities inside the new Barclays Campus, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for our work!
