Reclaimed timber cladding brings warmth and character to Cotswolds Cabins

Founded by husband-and-wife team, Tom and Emma Evetts, Alcoves is a combination of their creative and practical worlds to create a space that celebrates a working landscape and artistic expression.

With Black Pines designing and installing the cabins themselves, Tom and Emma’s brief to them was for something warm and rustic to make their visitors feel completely at home.

The Alcoves cabins are currently two: The Green Cabin and The Blue Cabin. Located on a working family dairy farm, the two cabins and shared sauna are nestled into the trees on the edge of a patch of woodland where they overlook an open pasture.

Here, Jersey cattle graze against the backdrop of Cotswold parkland, just as livestock have for hundreds of years before them.

A row of oak and lime trees planted in the late 18th century create a sheltered microclimate for livestock to rest and take shelter. Now, these natural alcoves return to their original purpose of providing warmth and rest, this time for visitors looking for peace and quiet away from the craziness of everyday life.

The two artist-designed cabins are layered with carefully sourced pieces that combine comfort with craftsmanship.

Quality soft furnishings, considered kitchenware, and lots of artisanal details, including our cladding, come together to create a cosy home-away-from-home.

And with the option to add provisions from local farms and producers, a stay in one of the Alcoves cabins is a complete escape that encourages full connection to place and the opportunity to pause and reset.

“I left feeling completely restored.”

CARING FOR THE LAND

Creating something that builds sustainability into both the design and visitor experience was central to Tom and Emma’s objectives for Alcoves. Explaining what they hoped for the cabins, they said:

“We believe that the environment should be regenerated through tourism, and not depleted by it; with this in mind, we offer a stay that treads lightly on the land.

Guests are encouraged to settle into the rhythm of the landscape. In front of the cabins you will regularly find the herd of friendly Jersey cows, who graze the farm rotationally and provide the delicious, fresh milk for your morning cup of tea.

A dedicated wildflower meadow is also currently being established, providing a vital habitat for pollinators whilst offering a shifting, colourful backdrop for those staying on the land.”
