Kitchen renovations using reclaimed scaffold boards

With the help of some reclaimed scaffold boards, Hayley and Adrian have completely transformed their kitchen areas.

Both of them wanted something with a little more character, and it also helped that our waste wood and bespoke services helps the community and the planet.

ADRIAN’S KITCHEN: BEFORE

Before he renovated, Adrian’s kitchen was fitted out with standard MDF units which weren’t fully utilising the space. So armed with a drawing and a handful of measurements, he came to us to order bespoke below-counter units, a Suilven bookcase and some scaffold board shelving.

HAYLEY’S KITCHEN: BEFORE

Hayley is an Ayrshire based artist who up-cycles waste wood to make her pieces. She tells us her husband is terrible at DIY, so their kitchen renovation is her proud work!

Hayley told us that her kitchen cupboards were just taking up too much space. They wanted something more modern and a little bit industrial, so it was our reclaimed scaffold boards which came to the rescue.

ADRIAN’S KITCHEN: AFTER

“Thanks so much for this bespoke order, I couldn’t be more pleased with the result. The build was spot on to my measurements! The install was plain sailing once the plumber and electrician had done their part and I’d repainted and replaced and flooring.

I ordered the units with a smooth finish so that I could give them three coats of clear worktop oil prior to installation. I’ll then re-coat every six months to maintain the finish and prevent general wear & tear.”

HAYLEY’S KITCHEN: AFTER

“I’m obsessed with Glasgow Wood. Every time we go by I make my husband take me in and he just rolls his eyes – I love being better at DIY than him.

I make loads of stuff from wood, and I also paint on waste wood. I tell all my customers where I source my wood. Anyway, here’s the pictures from my DIY-on-a-budget kitchen!”

ADRIAN’S KITCHEN: AFTER

It’s great to see what a few coats of paint can do to transform a space.

Those sunshine yellow feature walls do wonders during a Scottish winter! Adrian’s also cleverly reused the cupboard doors from the original kitchen and painted them a dark grey, which links nicely to another piece he has on the opposite wall. We love when people go the extra mile with up-cycling.

Adrian’s bespoke Suilvan Bookcase and scaffold board shelving have been sized perfectly to utilise his unusually shaped space.

With an Osmo dark finish and our steel brackets, they compliment the grey accents beautifully.
